My loving family
I often wonder what miraculous deeds I must have done in my former life in order to deserve the family that I am blessed with today. If there really is an ideal family, then mine comes quite close to that ideal. My parents foretold the happiness of my life when they named me Amy, or "loved." From the moment that I took my first breath of air, I have been loved and cared for by my parents and my brother.

My mom once followed the career of a mathematician, but now she teaches Chinese at a popular school, Saratoga Community Chinese School, that she founded in 1991. Along the way, she's managed to supervise her own software group at Bell Lab, start her own software consulting company, manage the computer software divisions of nine UC campus financial systems, publish several Chinese language books, run a suburban household, and put two kids through college. If you know of anyone who wants to be taught by a world-class instructor, just give me a ring and I'll hook you up. Trust me, she's the best teacher I've ever encountered. Check out the cool graphic that I created for her Chinese school.

My dad is the Vice President of Software Development at Quickturn (now a Cadence company), a CAD design systems company in San Jose. He likes to remind me that he eventually entered the computer industry despite obtaining a Bachelors, a Masters, and a Ph.D. in PHYSICS! He even studied liquid crystals at UC Berkeley's Lawrence Labs. apparently, my grandfather had hopes of him winning a Nobel Prize. Imagine my grandfather's disappointment when both my brother and I followed my dad into the computer industry, this time without a 10+ year grace period of studying physics first.
My brother, two and a half years my senior, attends UC Berkeley. Woo hoo! Go Bears! (Did I mention that I was a coin toss away from going to Cal?...We were so close to becoming a true Berkeley family!) He is currently working with the BRASS research group, while obtaining his Masters in EECS. Last year, my brother was featured on the cover of EE Times. If you're interested, here's the article.
